Gratitude is my Attitude

I am back. I felt compelled. So how-ever-many years later, here I am blessing you all with my thoughts. First topic, gratitude.

Does anyone ever feel like the practice of gratitude is such a massive thing? How can the practice of just being grateful and acknowledging what it is we’re grateful for become such a burdening feeling or something we put off?

From multiple discussions I’ve had I have came to the conclusion that everyone is searching for this big massive thing to be grateful for. The time in the day comes where you do your practice and write perhaps 3-5 things you’re grateful for… There you are, searching your mind for a realization that catapults them into the next path on their journey, an act of someone, a gift, a success or some grand gesture and in the end finding yourself maybe left empty minded of things to be grateful for.

Life is hard, busy and overwhelming. We are navigating from one step to the next, finding and losing ourselves from day to day. We’re wrapping ourselves in all things life and technology, becoming so unawarely immune to all the “small” things that happen every day. It’s so easy to get caught up and forget to just simply live. We won’t even get to the bad days when everything is overwhelming and the world is melting down around us. I’ll be the first to admit that finding gratitude and grounding myself when i’m being a sassy bitch isn’t the first thing on my mind. (my friends might even give me my own prompt about “what are you grateful for” and i’ll respond in my sassy tone “nothing.”)

But think about it.. What is wrong with being grateful for things we deem small. Like today, today I am grateful for the taste of dijon mustard. COULD YOU IMAGINE A LIFE WITHOUT MUSTARD? Or, I didn’t take 7 years to respond to my friends text. Maybe tomorrow I’ll be grateful for some massive unexpected kindness or a new opportunity. There’s always something to be grateful for and nothing is insignificant. Stop and smell whatever there is to smell and quit searching for the roses.

When we start acknowledging the small things to be grateful for the big things have room to grow and become more frequent. Finding yourself in a grateful mindset makes it easier to appreciate and hold value to anything regardless of if we believe it’s minimal or magnificent in the grand scheme of things. I truly find the magic in the simple, little things… like when someone waves when you let them in while driving. (you.are.an.angel.)

Gratitude is simple. Stop making it complicated. Challenge yourself, commit. Regardless of how shit your day was, be grateful for 3-5 things at the end of the day. Somedays will be easier than others and somedays you’ll just be thankful to be alive… and.. THAT IS OK! Stop overthinking it. Embrace the joy that your heart fills. Wake up and wonder, what amazing things are going to happen today?

love & light,
cass xx

  2. One learns to Practice Gratitide unfortunately & mostly due to some sort of Trauma. And when this little word is completely understood & used, love for oneself and Life itself becomes so much easier.
    Great topic Cass.
